Murphy Funkhouser Capps has lived many lives, traveled many miles, and loves to share her experiences and her story to support and inspire others
Murphy helps businesses tell their stories as a brand and business strategist with her company Kudzu Brands based in Asheville, NC.
Known for her enthusiasm and passion for entrepreneurship and for helping businesses grow, Murphy is also a business coach, educator and mentor.
Despite not having a traditional business education or path, for the past ten years, Murphy has been growing a company that has seen many successes. In 2013, with a new baby, and a challenging young business, Murphy’s husband was diagnosed with an incurable form of bone marrow cancer. While being a mother and a caregiver, Murphy continued towards and continues to meet her goals of cultivating a profitable and impactful business.
In 2018, Murphy was awarded the Woman Up Best in Business, Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Asheville Chamber of Commerce.
Murphy has spoken at UNC-Asheville, AB Tech and Blue Ridge Community College, guiding entrepreneurs, marketers, and other small business owners. She is on the board of the UNC-Asheville Management and Accountancy Department Advisory Board. Her business has won two Sky High Growth Awards from the Asheville Chamber, was designated as a high potential growth business by the Advantage West ScaleUp program and was chosen for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Babson College.
Murphy shares her stories of grit, tenacity and hope as an actor and as the author of two award-winning plays Crazy Bag and Carry On which have been called, "humorous and poignant reflections on courage, redemption and strength".
